Reading to Learn (R2L)
Because college students face heavy reading loads, they often find that keeping up
with reading assignments is challenging and time-consuming.
Reading to Learn (R2L) is here to help.
R2L is a project of Northwest Florida State College designed to support students'
learning through direct instruction of reading strategies.
Reading strategies are powerful tools that help students become skilled readers of
their textbooks.
Skilled readers are thinking readers. They know how to monitor their reading for comprehension
and how to adjust if comprehension is lost. They prepare for reading tasks before
starting to read, construct meaning as they read, and reflect on their reading when
they finish.
R2L resources here include how-to handouts, tutorials, and links to web resources.
Students will also find a reading strategies inventory, the MARSI, that they can take
to assess for themselves their knowledge and use of reading strategies.
